Clemson (@1.006) vs Syracuse (@21.0)

Our Prediction:

Clemson will win

Clemson – Syracuse Match Prediction | 14-09-2019 19:30

Clemson has grinded out some tough road wins, but has looked great at home. The Orange have looked good, but largely in their dome. They gave up 42 points at Western Michigan and I think Clemson could score at will today with its offensive leader clearly established now. Still, the Tigers had a 54-0 win in the last meeting at Clemson. Syracuse actually upset Clemson last year and has covered the spread in three of the last four meetings. The Clemson defense should be able to contain Dungey and force him to be a one-dimensional player.

That said, I have three concerns about my pick. Three is simply that college football is weird. Things that sound crazy in August become reality in November. Two, I have real concerns about the backup quarterback situation behind Tommy DeVito. One is that the offensive line needs time to gel.

Coach Dabo Swinney's team has won two of the last three national titles, four straight ACC Championship Games and hasn't suffered through a single-digit win season since 2010. It will be more of the same during the 2019 season, according to win totals released by FanDuel. Unless you've been living under a rock, you're probably aware that Clemson has been the class of the ACC this decade.

Oddsmakers are relatively high on Miami and Virginia Tech being relevant while extremely down on Syracuse -- the team that has played Clemson the toughest out of any of the ACC school over the last two seasons. Let's break down the totals -- which only include the 12-game regular season -- and give out some early "leans" on where to invest.

Clemson vs. Syracuse Fearless Prediction & Game Preview

Defensively, Syracuse is giving up 20 points and 386 yards per game. Moe Neal is adding 346 rushing yards and two scores for the Orange. Quarterback Eric Dungey has been a dual-threat, as he has thrown for 763 yards and nine touchdowns while rushing for 354 yards and four scores. Syracuse is having a great year on offense thus far, averaging 49.5 points and 523.3 yards per game.

The Orange's offensive line might need some time to mesh -- especially with center Sam Heckel missing time during camp -- and the linebackers will have to learn from inevitable early season slip-ups. I'll stick with my early prediction from April as not much has changed. Aside from facing reigning national champion Clemson, SU shouldn't be a significant underdog in any contest this fall. But team depth is at its strongest in the Dino Babers era and this year's schedule is by far the lightest.

The Clemson Tigers are off to a 4-0 start to the year following an impressive 49-21 win at Georgia Tech last week. The Tigers are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five, dating back to the playoffs last season. Clemson is 4-0 overall, 1-0 in the ACC, 1-3 against the spread and 2-2 with the over/under total.

The defensive front was able to come up with two sacks against LSU and two against Pitt, but its hardly a force thats going to pressure a gimpy Kelly Bryant. Good to go after suffering an ankle injury, he might not be taking off and being the rushing threat he was before the Wake Forest game, but hell get the time to work.

In the secondary, national title game MVP Trayvon Mullen left early for the NFL, but its worth keeping eyes on Kyler McMichael, who played sparingly in 2018, and five-star freshman Andrew Booth. DB Sheridan Jones also impressed in the spring game, recording seven tackles, a tackle for loss, a forced fumble and a 42-yard pick-6 to led the White team.

We should all walk away from this one with some questions answered, but others still left to be seen. It wont be a domination like most hope, but I do think it should be a decent win for Clemson in Death Valley. I think the Tigers are able to put up some points, but I think this one is also close for a while.

He knows Clemson a little bit, too.He was knocked out for the season in the game against the Tigers two years ago, and then last year he pulled off the stunner over them with a 278-yard, three-touchdown, 61-rushing yard performance in the win. It starts with QB Eric Dungey who has been beaten up and battered leading the team in rushing.
