Our Prediction:

Auburn will win

Oregon – Auburn Match Prediction | 25-08-2019 19:30

Both games are at home, and for that reason, Ill say Oregon wins and starts the season 6-0. Home games with Cal and Colorado dont seem to pose much of a threat, although the Golden Bears should take another step forward under head coach Justin Wilcox. The Buffaloes are reportedly bringing in Georgia defensive coordinator Mel Tucker as their new head coach, but nothing has been confirmed.

Both the Wildcats and Beavers are set to improve next season, but the Ducks roster and talent should out-match both schools. The last leg of the schedule sets up nicely with a home game versus Arizona, a road contest against Arizona State and the regular season finale, the Civil War at Autzen Stadium. Still, I think Oregon finishes the season with three straight wins. The Sun Devils will be losing two key offensive pieces in quarterback Manny Wilkins and receiver NKeal Harry, but Tempe has figured to be a difficult place to play for the Ducks as of late.

There is an argument to be made that this could be Auburns signature win of 2019, but it just seems unlikely even with the home field advantage. Something that hasnt happened in over 80 years. One important historical note to mention is that this could be the last time the Deep Souths Oldest Rivalry is played in its usual late November slot for a while.

Without a doubt, the toughest stretch of the schedule comes in late October, with a road contest at rival Washington, followed by a home game versus Washington State and finishing up with a road game at USC. If Justin Herbert returns for his senior year, dont be surprised if the game is considered by ESPNs College GameDay as the game of the week. Washington will be fielding a new quarterback, and many expect that to be Georgia transfer Jacob Eason. Rivalries games always mean more to players and fans, but the Huskies will have revenge on the mind in 2019 after a 30-27 (OT) loss in Eugene earlier this season. But, Eason has experience and should elevate UWs offense Ill say the Huskies get a close win in what could be a top 10 match-up. What really helps Oregon leading up the rivalry game is the extra day theyll have to prepare for the Huskies the Ducks will play Colorado at home on a Friday, eight days before their match-up with their rivals up north.

Oregon is trying to make the most of Heisman hopeful quarterback Justin Herberts senior year and Cristobals second season at the top.The Ducks return a combined 17 positional starters; a veteran offensive line, running back weapons CJ Verdell and Travis Dye,an influx of new talent at receiver, projected first round draft pick linebacker Troy Dye and afew extraordinary freshman who could make instant impacts. The anticipation is palpable.

However, Justin Herbert might be the first player to hear his name called in the draft next year. Oregon's offense isn't perfect, as they lost wide receiver Dillon Mitchell to the pros and Verdell as the lone running option isn't super inspiring. At 6-6 and 230 pounds with touch, a whip of an arm, and the ability to run effectively, Herbert should be able to leave the Ducks to a win on the back of 3 touchdowns, one of which will come on the ground.

Im giving Oregon the nod here. Auburns defensive line is considered one of the best nationally and the same could be said for Oregons offensive line. The matchups in the trenches will be fantastic. The Ducks are the more experienced team led by three-year starting quarterback Justin Herbert. I think Herberts experience edge give the Oregon passing game the edge over Auburns. Keep an eye on that area, as itll be crucial to the final result. I also believe the Ducks talented secondary will force whichever frosh gets the start difficulties.

From his seat at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, Nix cheered as quarterback Cam Newton and the Tigers defeated the Ducks, 22-19, to win the programs first national championship game in 63 years. Nixs dream to lead Auburn to a national championship intensified while he watched the 2011 BCS National Championship game. Fittingly, Nixs favorite Auburn memory as a fan includes the Ducks.

One-on-one with QB1: Peyton Manning's influence on Herberts decision to return

The college football world will be treated to one of the best non-conference matchups of the season when perennial SEC West contender Auburn squares off against Pac-12 favorites Oregon and their star quarterback Justin Herbert. As the highly-anticipated duel between Gus Malzahn's post-Jarrett Stidham Tigers and Mario Cristobal's reloaded Ducks inches closer, expect a couple star players to live up to their billing.
