Rangers – Livingston Match Prediction | 15-09-2019 10:00

Rangers host Livingston for their Matchday 5 clash as they return from the International break, looking to bounce back to the winning ways after seeing their lengthy unbeaten streak ended by fierce rivals Celtic (0-2) at this ground. They now want more in an attempt to pick it up ahead of the Europa League clash against Feyenoord and to keep track of Celtic at the top of the table early on.

They have lost just one of their last six against Rangers at home, however, winning the last two 1-0. Dolly Menga scored the only goal in the former, before Candeias, Alfredo Morelos and Scott Arfield earned Rangers a 3-0 win in November. One of those was in the Championship in 2016, while this years two fixtures after Livingstons promotion in the summer have ended in a 1-0 Livi win before Rangers hit back at Ibrox in the reverse fixture. Livingston have won only three of their 27 previous matches against Rangers, with seven draws and 17 defeats.

Jermaine Defoe scored on his Rangers debut in mid-week and could be handed a second start as he looks to get up to match sharpness. Borna Barisic is fit again but did not play in mid-week. Daniel Candeias was the man to drop to the bench. Jamie Murphy and Graham Dorrans remain out injured, while Gareth McAuley replaced Connor Goldson against Kilmarnock. Goldsons injury is not expected to keep him out long, but this game may come too soon.

Things were going well for Livingston towards the end of December; they were unbeaten in three, had conceded just one goal in over 270 minutes of football and were generally playing quite well; however, things have since taken a turn for the worse. That will need to be addressed if theyre to get anything off a Rangers side that will undoubtedly be chomping at the bit to right the wrongs of Wednesday evening. Their performance during the week wasnt terrible and they were competitive, but they lacked ideas going forward.

TSZ Latest

Considering that they just about had the better of the first half and were certainly in the game from start to finish, Livingston will have been very disappointed to leave McDiarmid Park empty handed on Wednesday evening. They need a reprieve, though facing Rangers hardly presents them with a gilt-edged opportunity to turn their fortunes around. Saturdays hosts have now lost three on the bounce.

After their Scottish Cup tie at Cowdenbeath was called off due to a frozen pitch, Rangers travelled to Kilmarnock but lost 2-1 despite Jermaine Defoes debut goal putting them in front. After going level with Celtic at the top of the league before the winter break, winning the Old Firm derby 1-0 thanks to Ryan Jacks goal, Rangers lost their first game back in mid-week.

Livingston comes into this clash in great form, not losing a single game since the beginning of their pre-season. Were backing the Gers to win to nil here by a narrow margin, with a final score of 1-0. Rangers will be desperate to put their latest defeat behind them and focus once again on the Premiership and keeping an eye out on their Europa League opener. Gary Holts side has since won 8 and drawn 3 times. The Gers home form, except their latest game against Celtic, has been impeccable in all competitions. However, itll be a tough time for the West Lothian outfit, but they wont let Rangers away with much.

Goal Margins

Going forward, without being imperious, Livingston have done well; theyve scored an average of 1.73 goals in front of their own fans, while theyve conceded a very impressive 0.45. Theyve also given away just 0.67 expected goals on average, which suggests that theyre capable of stopping teams from creating. Fortunately, Livingston can draw on several good performances at Almondvale Stadium this season. Sundays hosts have lost just one of their last five at home, while theyve thrashed Hearts during that time, while they also managed to hold league leaders Celtic to a draw, which will certainly give them confidence ahead of this match.

But at home things are much better for the side coached by Gary Holt. A win in this upcoming game would get them closer to the Championship group in the table. His team has won 3 and lost one of their previous 5 matches in front of the home crowd. In the latest 3 home fixtures, the final score had over 2.5 goals at the full time.

Livi would then go on to stun an in-form Ross County side by thrashing them 4-1, which they followed up with a 2-1 win over St Mirren just before the international break. Their opening day draw was followed by a 2-2 thriller at McDiarmid Park. But Livingston then went to Forfar Athletic in the Scottish League Cup, picking up the first of their 3-game winning streak.
